Reading

Picture
“To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries."
 - A C Grayling, Financial Times (in a review of A History of Reading by Alberto Manguel)

You are encouraged to read daily from a variety of sources  (books, internet, blogs, reviews, newspapers, magazines...)  at home.  Daily reading improves all literacy skills and increases overall knowledge.

Lit Letter Assignment
Each term you will complete one lit letter.   The assignment requires you to read the book, summarize it and then make connections  Text to Text, Text to Self, Text to World, Text to Media.   The discussion section is particularly important, as it requires you to think about and reflect on what you have read.   Be sure to begin reading a novel and avoid leaving this until the last minute.  It should be typed and is usually 2-3 pages.
