Writing
Responding to 9-11
For the past two classes we have looked at the 9-11 tragedy on the site www.awesomestories.com. We have looked at embedded primary documents, audio files and video clips and examined the events and reactions to this significant historical event.
For their first writing assignment, to get a sense of their abilities as writers, they are to write a 1/2 page to 1 page reflection on the event. They can make personal connections to their own experiences and should proofread for spelling and grammar. (Due Monday September 12th)
LANGUAGE CONVENTION TRAINING (LCT)
As a major component in the continued development of student's use of spelling, grammar and punctuation, we will do regular sessions of "writing convention training". In almost all writing rubrics, the conventions of writing account for a quarter of the assessment. Beyond the need to be prudent towards assignments though, young authours need to famaliarize themselves with the correct use of the English language and how to convey it in print in such a way that others can properly interpret the meaning of the text.

Blast from the Past - Retro Toy Writing Assignment (Due Thursday Sept 22)
Toys can have special significance beyond their functional play value. They are objects often intimately tied to memories and emotions of the past. Below are a few videos of toys important to me while I was growing up. I also welcome you to go to the website http://www.feelingretro.com, for blog about favourite toys of the 70's.
